In summer, when exposed to high temperatures, the smell in the car suddenly becomes thicker. Many car owners are troubled by this, and some people even experience various discomforts. In the past ten years, there have been many lawsuits caused by the pungent and unpleasant air in the car. Because there is no uniform standard, many car owners have lost the lawsuit. However, this unfavorable situation for consumers is likely to end within this year.
On May 23, the Ministry of Environmental Protection held a monthly press conference. Wu Xuefang, director of the Environmental Standards Institute of the Chinese Academy of Environmental Sciences, said: "We must strengthen the consistency inspection before the car leaves the factory." "This time we will strive to become a mandatory This standard is expected to be released and implemented this year in accordance with the requirements of the 13th Five-Year Plan."
The standard mentioned by Wu Xuefang is the "Guidelines for Evaluation of Air Quality in Passenger Cars" (hereinafter referred to as "Guidelines"). The "Guide" implemented in 2012 is only a recommended standard, which is not binding on auto manufacturers, and it is difficult for consumers to use it as a basis for litigation. However, the introduction of the "Guide" was to a large extent paving the way for becoming a mandatory standard. Five years have passed, and auto manufacturers should have enough mental preparation and practical actions, and the "Guide" should also become a butterfly. In the past five years, manufacturers who have despised or neglected the "Guide" and have not made adequate preparations may face lawsuits and notoriety in the future.
The "Guide" was born under the background that the media used "indigenous methods" to measure the air quality in the car. It confirms the fact that there are indeed poisonous gases in the car. Eight kinds of poisonous gases, including benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylene, styrene, phenylpropanal, formaldehyde, and acetaldehyde, can cause cancer or teratogenicity, seriously threatening hundreds of millions of car owners. Healthy. If there are no restrictions on the toxic ingredients in the air in the car, and the manufacturers are allowed to use low-end and cheap interior materials and adhesives, it is really impossible to justify. Fortunately, the revised "Guide", which was publicly solicited for comments last year, not only did not compromise with manufacturers, but tightened the limits, especially the limits for formaldehyde, toluene, and ethylbenzene, which are even higher than the standards of Japan and South Korea. In addition, in terms of evaluation methods, the revised "Guide" sets the door closing time at 16 hours, which is much higher than the 2 hours in South Korea, which is commendable. However, the limits of acetaldehyde, benzene, and xylene are lower than the Korean standards, which is somewhat unpleasant.
The author approves of tightening the standards, and hopes to promulgate mandatory standards for air inside cars as scheduled during the year. This is also the strong desire of consumers. Automobile manufacturers should pursue the "cleanest car", avoid being labelled as "poisonous cars" by public opinion, not to mention a large number of recalls due to too much toxins in the car.
It should be said that domestic consumers are extremely picky about the smell in the car. Part of the smell in the car is caused by toxins. Zhang Baolin, Director of Quality Assurance Department of FAW-Volkswagen Outsourcing Parts, once told the author that according to the results of J.D.Power's customer complaint survey, Chinese consumers' complaints about odors ranked first.
There is no progress without challenge. Passenger car manufacturers should take the feedback from the market seriously, take action as soon as possible, comprehensively check the toxicity and odor of interior parts and adhesives, and be willing to invest. The detoxification must be resolutely detoxified, and the deodorization must be resolutely deodorized. Vague, until reaching the standard or even better than the standard. After such improvements, domestically-made passenger cars will naturally create an internationally leading "smell advantage" and a set of important "Chinese technical standards." Looking ahead to the achievements of technological progress in the future, this year the Ministry of Environmental Protection will turn the "Guide" into a mandatory standard, which is indeed a great thing for the benefit of the country, the people, and the industry.
Toxic odors have to be removed. Shouldn't the non-toxic odors be removed? Obviously, the positive improvement is dominant. After the mandatory standards are released, even if the official agency does not evaluate the air in the car, a group of auto media will do the evaluation, and companies that do not meet the standards will naturally become the target of public criticism. According to Zhang Baolin, Germans feel very comfortable smelling the seat leather, but Chinese people prefer leather seats while rejecting the smell of leather. For this reason, FAW-Volkswagen supplier FAW Fusheng had to use a special distillation process to strip off the odor molecules in the foam material, and then hang the foam in the air to dry for about two days; the seat cover should also be aired 8 Hours; For carpets that were once criticized, a set of equipment was used to deodorize. FAW Fusheng also specially trained several "smell engineers" commonly known as "standard noses". Whether the smell of the interior parts is qualified or not, the noses of the "smell engineers" are "identified" and jointly evaluated.
Reaching the standard does not mean complete removal. The air purification system in the car is essential, which helps to reduce the content of poisonous gas, particulate matter and germs in the car. Placing a charcoal bag is not a good way after all. As early as 11 years ago, the sixth-generation Camry was the first to be equipped with a negative ion generator in domestic mid- to high-end cars, and many car owners had a good experience. Now, many domestic passenger cars are equipped with air purification systems one after another, which is the result of market competition. The author eagerly hopes that domestic cars will be equipped with an air purification system that can effectively remove benzene and aldehydes as soon as possible, so as to give Chinese people a "green compartment".
